Zumba, anyone?

I have been hearing about the wonders of Zumba for years now.
"It's so fun!"
"It's so easy! Anyone can do it!"
"I got great results!"
Anyway, I have always been interested to try it, but scared to look like an idiot at the same time. Eventually I kind of forgot Zumba even existed. Until today!

I found a Zumba DVD from the library and I was pysched! I ran home and I put the DVD in right away.

Okay, a couple things.....Whoever said Zumba is easy is definitely not as uncoordinated as I am! I made it through the Basics & did one of the 20 minute workouts. The basics part just quickly showed you how to do a few moves, but it was so quick that I couldn't catch up, nor do I even remember anything they taught me.

I didn't find it nearly as interesting or fun as everyone has claimed Zumba to be! I was really disappointed. Maybe I just need to revisit this DVD again at a later date when I am in better shape. It moves way too quick for me. But I am not a good dancer, I've never tried to be a dancer, and maybe that's why this wasn't any fun for me. Who knows!

Anyone else had any experience with Zumba?

I was wondering if any of you use any workout DVD's and if so, which ones? I have 14 different ones, and only really like about 7 or 8 of them. I am thinking of writing reviews for some of the DVD's I have here. I just want to see if that's something anyone would be interested in before I try all 14 of them out & start writing reviews. Of course, this would be a very time consuming task and I would probably only review one or two a month, but let me know if that sounds like a good plan or not.

  1. You know, like you, I've heard a lot of people love it, be addicted to it, get results. I do hip hop dance myself and yet I suck at taking dance instructions. I can learn by doing it, but not by watching it. I'm equally incoordinated at that stuff. You don't even want to know what happened in belly dancing. Hint: The teacher came up with a new move name based on me "the Karate kid wax on wax off maneuver."

  2. Hey miss lady, there is something amiss with gmail or something cuz there have been a couple of times that I've tried to post comments and it hasn't worked, like last night *grrr*

Anyhoo, I always loved "Cher Fitness: A New Attitude" (much better than "Cher Fitness: Body Confidence") because it's easy to follow, not terribly long, but a fan-TAB-u-lous workout. It starts with 40 minutes of step aerobics, and there are several different levels demonstrated throughout this section, including a woman who doesn't use a step and a woman who doesn't do the arm movements. The next chapter is a 10-minute ab workout, one that I have never seen before. It uses very tiny movements that REALLY get the work done quickly. Last but not least is a 20-minute lower body workout that again uses a lot of tiny movements that are very effective.

As for other vids, have you heard anything about PX90?

So how is your eating going? I'm starting to get bored which is very dangerous. I looked up low-carb Mexican dishes and found one that I'm trying tonight, so hopefully this'll wake up the ol' taste buds! :-)

  3. You know, I actually have the same problem when i try to post comments on other blogs. It says it went through, but I never see it. It's frustrating!

I have heard of PX90 but I don't really have the funds to try anything like that at the moment. Unless I currently have the DVD or my library has access to it, I can't try it out. Kinda stinks.

That Cher video sounds interesting. Cher kinda creeps me out big time, though. But hey! If it's effective, I might look into it.

My eating is going well. I can't cook gourmet meals or anything because we're on such a tight budget, but I am definitely getting better about having tons of fruits and veggies on a daily basis and cutting out 95% of the stuff we're not ever supposed to overindulge in. I do allow myself 2 or 3 treats a week if I meet my goals. It's working well!

I always reply to my comments so make sure you check back for my response!
